INSPIRED ARCHITECTURE
Insight and encouragement are found through various forms of symbolism in the school’s architecture. For example, the windows on one school building are configured in such a way as to resemble the Big Dipper. This is to remind students about the escaping slaves who found their way north by following the North Star and to inspire them to stay on a course that will lead to success.
Another example is the Bridge Walk. Graduating seniors, with the whole school watching below, will cross the bridge, peeling back stickers that will reveal the college they are going to attend. They will then proceed to a room in which they’ll write, in a special book, inspirational words for future graduates. Only graduating seniors will be able to walk across the bridge, and only graduates will be able to read what other students have written in the book.
